Welcome To Drew’s Honeybees!
Wow, so we are actually here. After months, years of research and development, marketing, learning the ins and outs of retail trade, and the many steps to building a brand we are finally launching with products we are proud of. There are countless decisions during the creation of a product that generally break down into two choices. Do you want your product to be higher quality, more ethically sourced or do you want the product to be cheaper? We are intensely proud to say that at each juncture we chose quality and ethical sourcing. This is both our greatest strength and weakness.
Insisting on the finest, ethically sourced ingredients drives up costs, which, when you are striving to bring a product to the masses, lessens profit margins. Anyone with an MBA will tell you that is not the idea. However, we have an abiding belief that doing well by all stakeholders- farmers, consumers, employees, the earth, and future generations will engender goodwill and bring success.
As we are starting with lip balms, we should detail several approaches that make us different. Most manufacturers of lip balms, even natural, organic lip balms use composite flavors that are remarkably evocative of whatever they emulate. However, they are concocted by chemists and bear no relation to the stated flavor. So, while your favorite lip balm may smell and taste like passionfruit, you are not consuming passionfruit. You are consuming a chemist’s approximation.
We disavow this approach in favor of authenticity. When we make a lip balm, be it Cocoa, Coffee, or Vanilla, we give you the fruit of the plant. Additionally, beeswax is our only non-vegetal ingredient. Most manufacturers of lip balm use lanolin, the grease from the wool of sheared sheep, in their lip balm. It is high in vitamin E like the skins natural oils. However, it also often has miticide residue and gross contaminates. For this reason, we do not use it. We use undiluted jojoba oil, which is naturally high in vitamin E and imitates the skin’s natural oils.
While we are proud of the company we have made to this point, we hope to continue to grow and expand our social and environmental benefit. When you buy Drew’s Honeybees products, you are buying more than a lip balm; you are supporting responsible capitalism and doing some good. Thank you for joining us on this journey.
